Best hotel for 2 night SIN mileage run

I plan to make a mileage run to SIN in a couple of weeks. I've never been there and am seeking advice on the best hotel to choose. I'm looking for something in the best location for a first timer to Singapore on an extremely short 1 full day stay, 2 nights. Any ideas? Thanks.

Just got back this evening from Singapore. I ended up staying at the Conrad due to some of the posts here. I was EXTREMELY pleased with my decision. Rate was S$171 per night, plus since I'm Hilton Gold (a free upgrade to Gold from AA) I was put on the top floor with full lounge benefits. The free breakfast in the lounge was great and the entire hotel staff was fantastic. If you're trying to decide where to stay in SIN, I definitely recommend the Conrad.

A great mid range place is the YMCA on Orchard Road, well located 3-5 minutes walk from the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. Lately S$85 including breakfast, inclusive of taxes and service.

If you want something cheaper, try the New 7th Storey hotel close to Bugis MRT and a great food court in the Parco complex.

Conrad SIN web site is showing rates of S$162+++/night arriving 8 Nov, departing 11 Nov. This is about as cheap as I've seen. Last year's cheap rates were around S$180, as I remember.

(There's a "Sunday Free" rate, but the average cost/night is S$183.)

I just booked a room at the Conrad for July 2003 for S$162. Go to www.conradhotels.com (http://www.conradhotels.com)

Have stayed at the Grand Hyatt (Orchard Rd. area) and was able to use a UA 50% certificate. It was a great place...excellent fitness center/spa facilities.

Okay... I got worried and called Hilton in Singapore. They stated that the lowest rate valid for the Friends of Changi 40% discount is SG$380... with the discount it becomes SG$228.

If you go online and book right now you'll see "Hilton E-Savings" rates at SG$220. I dunno if that qualifies for points/miles and upgrades, and with the 40% discount... well I'll pay SG$8 more per night for peace of mind... and hopefully a nice upgrade!

If you want to do a mileage run on a budget, I'll let you in on my secret - Keong Saik Hotel. It is superb.

Now, I just can't justify paying SGD200 for a room at the hilton anymore. This place is quaint, has local ambience, is in Chinatown, and only a 5 min walk up the road from Outram Park station - the MRT, which joins directly to the airport. Outram park is only a couple of stops from Town Hall, Suntec City or a few more to Orchard Road.

This hotel is in the heart of chinatown, there is great, low priced food nearby, good shopping, cheap internet cafes in the shopping centres (unlike the exhorbidant prices they charge at places like at Suntec city, etc). There is also an excellent food place across the road from the hotel which is open late and the staff are very very nice and friendly and happy to sit down and have a yarn.

When i stay in SIN, i usually get the single room with a single bed, ensuite bathroom. It has a TV with CNN (though reception is pretty poor - as noted in the review {it was kinda bizarre when i stayed there first knowing all these quirky things about the hotel before actually have stayed there before], air conditioned, wooden floors.

The hotel was renovated a few years ago from some quaint old singaporean terraces.

I found this hotel, after reading reviews of other SIN hotels, including the Royal Peacock (which is next door) I opted for this based on the more favourable reviews. I was considering the Tropical Hotel, but the reviews were very poor.

They respond to emails quickly and their service is great. They serve a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning, really nothing flash. I think Royal Peacock actually serve a hot breakfast, but i heard reviews some rooms can be noisy.

I stay on the SGD60 nett rate (inclusive of all taxes) but u can pay more for a larger room.

I agree with HIGHFLYAH. The Ritz is the only way to go! For a few $ over the Hilton you can jump to 5 Stars. You will be spoiled for life!

Did you have to book through the hotel directly at the S'pore number? Were you able to get HHonors credit for the stay and points?

Also, if you have at least Hilton Gold status, did they upgrade you with exec floor privileges?

In many stays at the SIN Hilton on cheapo rates booked online, I've always gotten points and miles (and upgrades when I had appropriate status). It sounds to me as if the Friends of Changi rate may not be that good a deal, but for S$8, I'm not sure it's worth changing.

By the way, the Orchard Rd side of the Hilton can be noisy, especially on the weekend. Sirens, drunks, you name it. After reading about the FT "March through S'pore" over the weekend of 7-8 Sep, I have a better understanding of these phenomena.

Also any hints on getting Hilton Gold before I arrive ? I am currently Silver thru Visa Promo and cant do it thru all the normal stays required.

For anyone running in November, the Conrad SIN has rooms available for Sing $189.

For local hotels, the Keong Saik is ok if you get a decent room; the Albert Court is ok; the Robertson Quay is good but not near a subway station. Try the websites and you will see somewhat different rates, but get one that includes breakfast and all taxes. www.asia-hotels.com (http://www.asia-hotels.com) is wonderful, including local destination information in addition to hotel reviews. What about the Hilton on Orchard with the Friends of Changi 40% discount? It brought our room rate down to about US$100.

Do you want first class western style hotels or decent local places? Do you want to walk around, use the subway, and see the real Singapore of Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street; or do you want to merely see the western type areas?

I just got back from a pseudo-MR to SIN yesterday, and stayed three nights/two days at the Conrad for SGD180. I have to say it was one of the nicest hotels I'd ever been in, and as an HHonors Gold, I got upgraded to the next-to-highest floor and had full access to the excellent lounge for breakfast, tea, and cocktail hour. Complimentary fruit, chocolate, and bottled water in my room, and ice water delivered without a request poolside. Wow! I'd stay there again without a doubt.

Last time I stayed at the parkview HI on Orchard Road http://www.singapore.holiday-inn.com/

about 65US$ per night and very nice hotel with rooftop pool ..
not comparable to those HIs in the US - far better - good 4* hotel not 2* like the US HIs.

Has wireless broadband internet for 12$US (per 24h - but one 25$ login worked all 6 days for me ) - really fast .. weireless PC Card rental for free .. but be warned that the quality of the wireless net varies from room to room - the concierge desk has a chart which rooms have an excellent, or poor net quality - tell them that you want to use the wlan as soon as posible and before they assign you a room -- I had to change rooms because I originally had a room with no net access.

Another vote for this Y. Clean, centrally located, good rooftop pool, breakfast included.

How about a lodging recommendation for those who aren't just cheap with airfares, but hotels too? Decent local place being ok.

Being a biased Marriott MR man, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in SIN than at the Marriott. It's right on Orchard Road, has all the mod cons and rates start at approx USD 133.00 per night.

I've always stayed at the Grand Hyatt, when in SIN, and I know the Conrad is the hotel of choice for a lot of Mileage Runners. But $140 is a great rate for the Ritz. If you are watching your money, and getting in late, you could spend the first night at the SIN Transit hotel and then spend the second night at the Ritz.

I usually don't stay at Hiltons. But in SIN or AKL, I make an exception. So, for SIN, go to the Conrad.

Well, we just booked a regular room at US$170 (SG$300). I haven't used it yet, trip is in mid-October. The voucher states the following:

"Discover outstanding restaurants and quality accomodation in a central location at Hilton Singapore. Relax in one of its' superbly-appointed rooms or luxurious suites at a fabulous 40% discount off published rates"

I booked through Hilton.com so it must be published. It states "superbly-appointed rooms or luxurious suites at a fabulous 40% discount" so I imagine it applies to all rooms.

It continues...

1. Please call 730-3200 for reservations.
2. Rooms are subject to availability.
3. E-vouchers must be printed.
4. Only applicable to Friends of Changi.
5. E-vouchers must be produced for redemption of offer.

In order to print the voucher you must be a registered member of Friends of Changi.

The only thing I didn't do was call the 730-number for reservations as I reserved my room online.

The quoted lines are the only words on the printed voucher. Did I miss something? Do I qualify for the 40% off? Has someone else had any experience with this offer when booking a regular room online?

I can also vouch for this. I've stayed there 3 times. Personally, I can't justify a mileage run with US$100-150 hotel rates. Fine for vacations, or when the boss is paying, but not for mileage runs.

The Ritz-Carlton has rooms starting from about US$140 a night. Absolutely breathtaking hotel. Highly recommended.
