Do United Express miles/segments count in Aeroplan?
January 6th, 2009
I'm planning a YYZ - LAX trip. Some segments are served by United Express / Sky West Airlines; UE /AWAC; or UE /Atlantic Coast. Will I get Aeroplan status miles for these segments or just the UA segments, and do all the segments count in Aeroplan?
Is there a limit on the number of stops enroute? How much can I zig-zag? I'm trying to get 60 segments before end of June when my business travel ends for this year.
Also, do I have to return by the same route to keep the return fare low, or can I return by a different route? I'll be leaving Mar 15 for three days of meetings starting Monday the 17th in LA.
Any other suggestions to maximize mileage?
One slight correction. The fares on UA allow 4 TRANSFERS or 5 segments per sector. You're right - thanks. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
My Galileo is down, but from memory, try YYZ-ORD-DSM-DEN-SEA-LAX. I didn't try this out of YYZ, but I think it worked out of BUF. You may get more miles if you go via IAD, but I can't remember if it's on the routing.

Is there a limit on the number of stops enroute? How much can I zig-zag?That depends on the fare you're on. If you're flying UA, it's usually 8 total segments (4 each way).
Also, do I have to return by the same route to keep the return fare low, or can I return by a different route? No you don't. As long as you are flying via 'eligible' cities in the fare rules + the fare class is available, then you'll be fine.
You can get an idea of the allowable routing on expedia. (Go to www.expedia.ca, (http://www.expedia.ca,) flights & Charters tab, lowest fare. Then click on more rules, scroll to the bottom and you'll see routings.)
Any more questions, feel free to ask.

YYZ-SAN
Mar 22 - 26 (changed from above, but final I think).
AC / UA
Thanks
Are you trying to do YYZ-SAN or YYZ-LAX? What are the dates?
Thanks again. My error, final destination is SAN, not LAX. I tried the YYZ-ORD-DSM-DEN-SEA-LAX route suggested, but when I replace LAX with SAN I get a connection which gives me six segments. Expedia comes up with a price, but I assume this route won't work with UA. ??
I'm still working on the return, but end up running out of day before a last flight ORD-YYZ. Trial and error will continue!
I am not familiar with circle routes and didn't find mention of them in the primer. How do I plan these? What are the rules, or where do I find them. Thanks again for all your help so far. It has aleady improved my mile count.
Bob
Circle route possibilities sound interestng but all threads I've followed give definitions but not rules. How do I get 15 segments YYZ-SAN on UA?
Any help appreciated.
Bob
